For Liew Shan Yi, the journey into construction began with a strong foundation in engineering. Starting as an electrical engineering contractor in 2017, he recognised opportunities emerging from Malaysia’s growing focus on renewable energy and expanded into designing and installing green energy systems and supplying high-efficiency LED lighting.
As the business grew, Liew and his team broadened their expertise into air-conditioning and cold storage solutions, covering design, supply, installation, and commissioning. A major turning point came during a machine scanner construction project for JKDM (Kastam Malaysia) in South Malaysia, where he identified recurring challenges involving project delays and cost overruns.
That experience inspired the establishment of I Smart Construction Sdn Bhd, built around providing clients with a more comprehensive, one-stop approach to construction. Today, Liew remains focused on delivering projects with efficiency, reliability, and a commitment to building lasting trust with clients.
